East London's 2012 Olympic Handover Party Guide
As the Beijing 2008 Olympics draws to a close on Sunday 24 August, all eyes turn to London as the next official Olympic City. East London invites you to celebrate in style to mark the start of our four-year journey to hosting the 2012 Games.
Your Essential Party Guide:
Party like it's 1948 down Hoxton Street, the year when the Games last came to London. Admire vintage items and memorabilia, take part in funny sports competitions, see the actual 1948 Torch, sample 1948-style cakes and home-made jam with afternoon tea and more... Festivities carry on in Shoreditch Park.
Celebrate with a whole host of free family-friendly entertainment at The O2 with jazz and samba bands, acrobats, street entertainers, a bouncy castle and food and novelty stalls. Then join the rest of the nation for a merry sing-along.
Watch the last coverage of the 2008 Beijing Olympics and witness the historic moment of the Olympic Flag handover to London Mayor Boris Johnson in Beijing's Olympic Stadium on big screens in Canary Wharf, Greenwich, Hackney and Waltham Forest.
See London 2012 flags raised in Barking Town Hall and Walthamstow Town Square.
Fly the flag at Lewisham's new Olympic Garden of Flags made by local residents.
Dance to the rhythm of Victoria Park from hip-hop to Bollywood plus live music from the London Breakbeat Orchestra.
Enjoy a day-long town show with music and entertainment in Havering's Harrow Lodge Park.
